Tourism is the most important socio-economic activity for the country's development. Tourism brings valuable foreign exchange to the country which adds to the overall national income. Due to the diverse geographical locales, the Tourism industry is one of the flourishing industries in India.


From the abundance of monuments and forts to mountains and river places, India attracts tourist attention. Secularism in India adds a pinch of beauty to all the states where tourists can witness a diversity in food, language, custom, regional practices, etc. from northern to southern states.


Diversity in climate is also the major reason for such a sharp rise in the tourism sector, where tourists can enjoy snowfall in the northern part while at the same time they can experience hot waves in the southern part. Types of tourism


Pilgrimage tourism- Pilgrimage tourism is one of the earliest forms of tourism. India is a secular country thus there are various popular temples and shrines in India which attract tourist attention. People around the world travel to India to visit famous temples such as Vaishno Devi, golden temple, Mathura Vrindavan, Kedarnath, etc.


Adventure tourism- Adventure tourism has recently grown in India but has made a significant impact on the tourism industry. This involves exploring new areas and engaging in various adventurous activities, people usually travel to places like Himachal and Ladakh for trekking and rafting.



Wildlife tourism- India has a rich forest cover where 21.6% of the land is covered with dense forest with exotic species of wildlife. Wildlife tourism is on the rise in India because India has even endangered and rare species in its wildlife sanctuaries and national parks. Some popular wildlife tourism spots are Sariska wildlife sanctuary, Corbett national park.


Medical tourism- Tourists from all over the world visit India to avail of cost-effective and superior quality healthcare service. Whether to take general medication advice or for complicated surgical procedures tourists trust India for its healthcare services.


Ecotourism- Ecotourism means to experience the natural environment without damaging the natural habitat. For ecotourism, tourists visit places like Gir national park, Kaziranga national park, etc.

 

Importance of Tourism


The tourism industry is the backbone of any country because it is essential for the development of many economies around the world. Tourism not only boosts the overall revenue of the economy but creates many jobs and develops the infrastructure of the country. Tourism is a way in which people exchange cultural views. This is why people started realizing the importance of tourism.


Tourism not only generates employment in the tourism sector but also generates employment in the agriculture sector, service sector, healthcare sector, educational sector, etc. When tourists travel to various locations it becomes profitable not only to the hospitality sector but also to local shops and restaurants of that area.


To attract more tourist attractions the government keeps on spending on the infrastructure which adds to the beauty of the state. Tourism also creates a cultural exchange of values where tourists get to know about different cultures, this also increases cultural acceptance among people.
