Latest SSC CHSL Exam Updates  


  1. The SSC CHSL 2021 Exam (Tier 1) was earlier scheduled to be on 12-19 April 2021 and 21-22 may 2021 (For candidates who have opted for west Bengal as their exam centers) 
  2. However, the exam has been postponed by SSC for all the candidates. 
  3. The reason that the SSC CHSL exam has been deferred is due to the spike in coronavirus cases. 
  4. Candidates need to check the official website of SSC for further exam-related updates. 
  5. The exam dates for SSC CHSL Tier 2 are also yet to be announced.

SSC CHSL Exam Pattern 2021


There is no change in the SSC CHSL Exam pattern this year. However, candidates need to be well aware of the complete exam pattern so that they can be fully prepared for their upcoming exam. Know the complete marking scheme, duration of the paper, important topics, etc below. 


There are in total three tiers for the SSC CHSL Exam i.e. Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3. 


Tier 1


The mode of the SSC CHSL Tier 1 Exam is objective-based. Candidates will be given various options out of which they need to select any one correct answer. This tier consists of sections such as Reasoning Ability, Quantitative Aptitude, General Awareness, and English Language. The total marks allotted for this paper is 200 (2 marks for each question) and the total number of questions is 100. The duration of the Tier 1 exam is 60 minutes whereas, for PwD candidates, it is 80 minutes. Note that there is a negative marking for this paper where 0.50 marks will be deducted for each wrong answer.

Tier 2


Tier 2 consists of Essay and Letter/Application writing where candidates need to write 150-200 words essay and Letter/Application of 200-250 words. Candidates need to score at least 33% in this tier as it is qualifying in nature. Note that candidates will be given a total duration of 60 minutes for this paper whereas 80 minutes will be allotted to candidates who belong to the PwD category. The concepts asked in this Tier will be of class 10 level. 


Tier 3 


Tier 3 will be a skill test that will be held for certain posts only. 


A typing test will be arranged in this Tier where candidates need to type 35 words per minute (English medium) and 30 words per minute (Hindi medium). However, candidates who are visually handicapped (40% disabled) will be granted a total duration of 30 minutes.

In this section, questions related to national and international events will be asked. Candidates should prepare themselves by reading news, magazines, articles, etc. This section has a lot of scopes as SSC can ask questions related to any field so you need good practice to ace this section.

General Intelligence

Trigonometry: Trigonometry, Trigonometric Ratios, Complementary Angles, Height and Distances, Standard Identities like sin² 𝜃 + Cos² 𝜃=1, etc.


Statistical Charts: Use of Tables and Graphs: Histogram, Frequency Polygon, Bar-Diagram, Pie-Chart
