Apache Cassandra is highly scalable, distributed and high-performance NoSQL database. Cassandra is designed to handle a huge amount of data. It has no single point of failure and uses a peer-to-peer distribution model that makes it easy to distribute data across multiple data centers and cloud availability zones.
It was initially developed at Facebook to power the Facebook inbox search feature and was later released as an open source and became a part of Apache incubator project.

Structured Query Language is the standard means of manipulating and querying data in relational databases.
SQL consists of many types of statements: a data query language (DQL), a data definition language (DDL), a data control language (DCL), DTL (Data Transaction Language) and a data manipulation language (DML).
DQL refers to the SELECT, SHOW and HELP statements.
DDL refers to the CREATE, ALTER and DROP statements.
Keywords included in DCL are GRANT and REVOKE statements.
Keywords included in DTL are START TRANSACTION, SAVEPOINT, COMMIT and ROLLBACK [TO SAVEPOINT] statements.
Keywords included in DML are INSERT, UPDATE and DELETE statements.

Databases are structured to facilitate the storage, retrieval, modification, and deletion of data in conjunction with various data-processing operations. A database management system (DBMS) extracts information from the database in response to queries.
In one view, databases can be classified according to content type: bibliographic, full text, numeric and images. In computing, databases are sometimes classified according to their organizational approach. They have evolved since their inception in the 1960s, beginning with hierarchical and network databases, through the 1980s with object-oriented databases, and today with SQL and NoSQL databases and cloud databases.
