Students more likely to get seats of their choice this year in IIT’s

This is the fourth year that JoSAA will be conducting admissions for IITs, National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) and other Government Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs).

JoSAA shall be conducting 7 rounds of counselling this year.

In 2017, 121 seats were left vacant while 96 in 2016, 50 in 2015 and 3 in 2104 were vacant.

Admissions to IITs will depend on the Joint Entrance Examination-Advanced (JEE-Adv) scores of students, the results for which were declared on June 10.

Acting on the request from Human Resource Development Ministry (HRD) eligibility scores were dropped to make more student eligibly.

The new minimum aggregate scores for eligibility to admissions to IITs were slotted at:

  • 90 out of 360 for the general category,
  • 81 for OBC-Non Creamy Layer (NCL)
  • 45 each for SC and ST categories,
  • Total 31,988 (27,809 boys and 4,179 girls) students are in the pool for 2018
