The culinary industry is a practical and celebrated one which comes in the all-time essential necessity sector of life.We all foremostly need food,clothing and shelter, the topmost prerequisites for man and life to be sustained.And cooking food is always a pleasure a sought after skill for all ages to come.The permanent constant according to me is primarily food,food and food again.The culinary industry can be driven best by passionate individuals who try to make food spreading the essence of bliss all around.But the tricks of this trade cannot be learnt merely by studying books and grasping theoretical knowledge.So the hospitality courses require the candidates to be taken to industry visits and do internships with big hotel chains.

And one of the ways to learn about many aspects of life without getting burdened is through cinema.Movies are a reflection of what we experience in our day to day lives.They are more relatable and teach-worthy.So here is a list of 5 movies all going-to-be chefs should watch---

1. The hundred-foot journey---This movie is a 2014 American comedy-drama film directed by Lasse Hallstrom written by Steven Knight adapted from Richard Morais’2010 novel with the same name.The film stars Helen Mirren,Om Puri,Manish Dayal and Charlotte de Bon and revolves around a war sort of between two restaurants in a village,one an Indian family and the other a lofty Michelin-starred restaurant.It is produced by Steven Speilberg and Oprah Winfrey for Dreamworks pictures and was released on August 8th,2014.It grossed 94$million at the worldwide box office.

The plot revolves around the Kadam family who had their restaurant business in Mumbai but following an incident they have to move to Europe.The family first settles in London but they are not able to do anything worthwhile there.Shortly they move to France where Mr.Kadam buys an abandoned restaurant and starts a restaurant of his own.This place is located directly opposite to the famous French restaurant Le Saule Pleureur whose owner is Madame Mallory.There starts a cold war between the restaurants but later when the son of Mr.Kadam strikes a friendship note with Madame Mallory and becomes a chef in her hotel the cold war ends and because of the great food cooked by Hassan the hotel gets it’s second michelin star.

The movie is about the making of a chef and how he gets experienced with time to touch the star of perfection.It is a good watch for going-to-be chefs and is fun too.

Message of the story---The movie conveys that new and creative means are the way forward and one can achieve his/her goal if he works wholeheartedly for it and if he is sincere for the cause.

2.Ratatouille---Ratatouille is a 2007 American animated comedy film produced by Pixar and released by Walt Disney Pictures.It is the 8th film produced by Pixar and is written and directed by Brad bird.The title refers to the French dish ratatouille which is served at the end of the film.The plot revolves around Remy an idealistic,ambitious and talented young rat who dreams of becoming a chef like his ideal a famous chef Auguste Gusteau.and tries to achieve his goal by making an alliance with a Pakistani restaurant’s garbage boy Alfredo Linguini who is the rightful heir of Gusteau and with his help starts making delicious meals at the hotel.

Message of the story---In the movie Gusteau says ‘anyone can cook’ and the movie tries to convey the message that if they possess a passion for anything they wish to do irrespective of any factor, they can achieve their dreams.The only thing that is needed is spirits,hardwork and dedication for the cause.

3.Chocolat---Chocolat is a 2000 romantic-drama film based on the 1999 novel Chocolat by the English author,Joanne Harris.It was directed by Lasse Hallstrom.Adapted by screenwriter Robert Nelson Jacobs,Chocolat tells the story of Vianne Rocher who comes in the fictional French village of Lansquenet-sous-Tannes with her six-year old daughter,Anouk.She starts a small chocolaterie or chocolate factory called La Chocolaterie Maya.Initially she faces a lot of resentment from the villagers being a free-spirited person amidst rigid society rules.But due to her helpful and understanding nature she soon builds a good rapport with the people.And her chocolates start to influence the lives of the townspeople of this repressed French community in different and interesting ways.The film released worldwide on Jan 19,2001.The drama got positive reviews by praising it’s acting performances and it’s screenplay. 

Message of the story---The movie conveys the message that if you have a good heart and adequate skills then nothing can stop you from reaching the zenith of success.And it also says that good food can win the heart of the people instantly.And the service done for men by feeding them good food is an indirect service to God.It is a humanitarian act like none other which makes the soul feel good apart from getting appreciation and blessings of all and is an automatic platform to showcase your culinary skills considered to be one of the best ones.

4.Haute Cuisine---Haute Cuisine is a 2012 French comedy-drama film based on the true story of Daniele Mazet-Delpeuch and how she was made the private chef for Francois Mitterrand.Hortense Laborie was a celebrated chef in France and she was very excited to land such a job.Laborie cannot believe her luck but then problems start when she has to face resentment from the male kitchen staff.But she finds a good friend in the President and happiness to know that she is good at her job.

Message of the story---The story tells that if you love cooking then it can be therapeutic for you.And that one must not be deterred by any kind of obstacles or there should not be any barriers to stop you from doing what you love to do.One must believe in self and firstly rely on self to get things done rightly. 

5.Chef---Chef is a 2014 American comedy-drama film written,co-produced,directed by and starring Jon Favreau.Favreau who is a chef of an upscale restaurant in California and has a good rapport with the staff but runs into regular fights with his boss over the decision of what dishes should stay on the menu and which won’t.Then he finally loses his job at the restaurant because of an incident with a food critic and then starts a food truck with his son.

Message of the story---The movie conveys the message for young chefs that failure is not final.One must not be guided by anyone else and must pursue his interest at any cost.The world may abandon you but you must not abandon your talent and skills.The world is not enough for an aspiring,strong-willed,spirited and hardworking person and he/she must also believe it being on the lookout for yet another destination,journey of life and another challenge of the day. 


Conclusion

These movies are a must watch for all going-to be chefs so that they come to know about the hardships,the bitter-sweet experiences and ordeals one has to face to taste success and still stand powerful in the pursuit of their passions.
