The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has decided to conduct the board examinations for the year 2021-22 in the form of two terms i.e. Term 1 and Tier 2 for students of class 10. The board exam will be divided into these two terms prevailing to the situation of the pandemic. The official exam date for term 1 has been released by CBSE where the exam is set to be held on 15 November 2021. Whereas, term 2 will be conducted next year around March-April 2022.


These terms will be held similar to semester-based examinations. Here, the syllabus will be distributed in two halves i.e. 50% syllabus will be covered in term 1 and the rest 50% will be covered in term 2. Students can check the detailed syllabus on the official website of CBSE.

Time duration of 4-6 weeks will be given for conducting the examinations across the country and abroad

The decision to conduct offline exams will be taken considering the situation of the pandemic.

The final marks of a student will be decided based on marks scored in both term 1 and term 2 examinations


CBSE Class 10 Term 1 New Exam Syllabus Subject Wise


MCQ Based Examination (Term 1)


  1. Term 1 examination will be held in an MCQ-based mode where students will be provided with OMR sheets to circle the correct answers. 


  1. It is mandatory to use a pen to circle the correct answer in the OMR sheet. 


  1. In case a student circles the wrong option, they can simply cut out the wrong circle and then mark the correct answer in the blank space provided against the four circles of the question. 


  1. Students will also be given the option to solve any 45 questions out of the 50 given in the question paper. 


Internal Assessments


Students need to appear for their internal assessment regardless of their Term 1 and Term 2 examination. Also, there are no changes in the format of the internal assessments. 


The following activities will be conducted in the internal assessments


  1. Three periodic tests
  2. Subject enrichment activities
  3. Portfolio
  4. Practical work (for selective subjects)
  5. Speaking listening activities (for language subjects)
  6. Project work

 Exam Centers 


Term 1 examinations will be conducted by the schools themselves. The question papers for the same will be created by CBSE and sent to the schools along with the marking scheme. This exam will be held under the supervision of superintendents and observers appointed by the CBSE. On the other hand, it is said that Term 2 will be conducted in the exam centers. Students will be notified about their respective Term 2 exam centers beforehand. 


Note that there will be no annual or final exam conducted at the end of the year. Students have to follow the guidelines specified by CBSE and appear for their Term 1 and Term 2 examinations. Lastly, CBSE will take all the major decisions related to the examinations keeping the current pandemic situation in mind.
