Adv. Digital Signal Processing - Multira..
Signal Processing is one of the important research fields that is used widely these days in different aspects of our lives. It is a wide area of research that extends from the simplest form of one-dimensional (1-D) signal processing (e.g., 1-D filters) to the complex form of multi-dimensional (M-D) (e.g. M-D filters). In signal processing, a filter is used to remove or modify some components or features of a signal. A filter bank is an array of filters that separates the input signal into multiple components, each one carrying a single frequency sub-band of the original signal. Filter banks have a lot of applications these days. In filter banks the process of decomposition performed by the filter bank is called analysis and the reconstruction process is called synthesis. This article provides a short survey of the concepts, principles and applications of Multirate Filter Banks and Multidimensional Directional Filter Banks.

The word 'wavelet' refers to a little wave. Wavelets are functions designed to be considerably localized in both time and frequency domains. There are many practical situations in which one needs to analyze the signal simultaneously in both the time and frequency domains, for example, in audio processing, image enhancement, analysis and processing, geophysics and in biomedical engineering. Such analysis requires the engineer and researcher to deal with such functions, that hav

The word ‘Wavelet’ refers to a little wave. Wavelets are functions designed to be considerably localized in both time and frequency domains. There are many practical situations in which one needs to analyze the signal simultaneously in both the time and frequency domains, for example, in audio processing, image enhancement, analysis and processing, geophysics and in biomedical engineering. Such analysis requires the engineer and researcher to deal with such functions that have an inherent ability to localize as much as possible in the two domains simultaneously. This poses a fundamental challenge because such a simultaneous localization is ultimately restricted by the uncertainty principle for signal processing. Wavelet transforms have recently gained popularity in those fields where Fourier analysis has been traditionally used because of the property, which enables them to capture local signal behavior.

signals and systems
A system is any process that produces an outputsignal in response to an input signal. ... Continuoussystems input and output continuous signals, such as in analog electronics. Discrete systems input and output discrete signals, such as computer programs that manipulate the values stored in arrays.
