Compost is an organic matter which helps to increase the fertility of the soil and retain the water-holding capacity of the soil. It is prepared by the decomposition of biodegradable waste into the simpler compound which is known as humus. Continuous use of these chemical fertilisers decrease the mineral content of the soil and cause the depletion of soil fertility overtime. It also causes acidification of soil that kills microbes that are present in the soil and are beneficial to plants. So we must use compost manure and other organic forms of fertilisers for agricultural purposes.
