  • Binomial nomenclature is the system of naming plants and animals where each organism name is denoted by two name one called the genus and the other the specific epithet. This system was given by Carolus Linnaeus. The scientific name of tiger is ‘Panthera tigris’; Homo sapiens is the scientific name of humans, etc. The genus name begins with a capital letter and the species name with a small letter. The scientific name or both words must be written in Italic and the name of genus has to be capitalized and is always read first. All the scientific names are usually in Latin and when they are handwritten they are highlighted or underlined. The names should always be written in italics.
