    • Surface tension is a measurement of the cohesive forces between liquid molecules at the surface.
    Molecules at the liquid's surface are partially exposed to the environment. Because the molecules at the liquid-air interface have fewer interactions, they have more energy to escape into the surrounding environment.
    As a result, energy is required to move molecules from the liquid's bulk to the surface. The stronger the intermolecular interaction, the more energy is required to increase a liquid's surface area.
    This energy is known as surface energy, and it is related to surface tension as follows:
    Surface tension = Surface Energy/ Area
