The construction of the Qutb Minar was initiated by Qutb-ud-Din Aibak, the founder of the Delhi Sultanate, in 1192. While he started the first storey, it was completed by his successor, Iltutmish, who added three more stories. Additional repairs and modifications were later made by Firoz Shah Tughlaq.
