What are the natural resources? This question might have occurred to you many times. Well, natural resources are defined as the resources that nature has gifted us. Basically, natural resources mean the resources which are provided to us without any action of humans.

Nature has so much to offer to us like animals, scenic beauties, vegetation and flora and fauna. The rainforests that we have help in bringing the rains thereby making the vegetation grow. Nature has offered us extinct species of animals, birds, flora, fauna and much more. We would have never witnessed such beautiful things if nature wouldn’t have allowed us.

But whatever nature has offered us, we have always misused it. Be it animals, vegetation or flora and fauna, we have destroyed every possible thing on this planet. But now is the time to know the importance of natural resources and saving them.

If we do not save these resources, we will suffer the related consequences because not everything can be done by science. We need natural resources to survive. Resources are important for the development of the nation. For instance, we need fossil fuels to generate energy.

In order to avoid environmental problems, we need to save our natural resources. We need fresh air to breathe and freshwater to drink. So, pollution must be minimized so that the hazardous air that we breathe in and the water that we drink is somehow purer. Moreover, we can have healthy ecosystems through natural resources.

Well, talking about ecosystems and promoting diversities, there is one thing that we must focus on i.e. the types of natural resources. There are different types of natural resources that help us in various ways. Oil, coal, natural gases are natural energy resources followed by air, sunlight and soil. The natural resources around us help us in enormous ways. For instance, soil, air and sunlight make the land fertile for agricultural purposes.

Similarly, coal and oil are used to generate energy. But we must know that exploitation of these resources can result in grave consequences. These natural resources must be used in a limited way. Overuse of such resources will lead to their depletion which might not be good in the future.

Now, apart from the types of resources, below is the list of natural resources that students need to know. There are biotic (living) and abiotic (non-living) natural resources. Let us take a look at them.

1. Biotic Natural Resources:

  1. Birds
  2. Ferns
  3. Insects
  4. Fungi
  5. Microbes
  6. Moses
  7. Petroleum
  8. Reptiles
  9. Shrubs
  10. Trees
  11. Worms

2. Biotic Natural Resources – Crops:

  1. Basil
  2. Bay
  3. Brussels Sprouts
  4. Carrot
  5. Catnip
  6. Cauliflower
  7. Celery
  8. Garlic
  9. Parsley
  10. Rice
  11. Rye
  12. Sorghum
  13. Wheat
  14. Sunflower
  15. Wheat
  16. Zucchini

3. Biotic Natural Resources – Ocean:

  1. Lobsters
  2. Fish
  3. Octopi
  4. Seaweed
  5. Shrimp
  6. Whales
  7. Dolphins

4. Abiotic Natural Resources:

  1. Barites
  2. Bauxite
  3. Coal
  4. Copper
  5. Diamond
  6. Gold
  7. Iron Ore
  8. Lead
  9. Marble
  10. Pumice
  11. Salt
  12. Sand
  13. Silver
  14. Sulphur
  15. Zinc

5. Natural Energy Resources:

  1. Biofuels – The fuels which are made from plants and animals.
  2. Geothermal Energy – The energy which is generated from and stored in the Earth.
  3. Hydroelectric Power – The power in which the water drives the turbines to produce electricity.
  4. Natural Gas – Fossil Fuel
  5. Nuclear Energy – The energy created by splitting the atom.
  6. Solar Energy – The energy generated by the sun’s rays to generate electricity.
  7. Wind Power – The energy in which wind turns the turbines to make electricity.

These are some of the natural resources examples that students can study and understand. Students must understand why there is a need to save these resources. Natural resources are depleting and global warming is increasing. If this goes on for say, 10 years then natural resources will completely disappear. There will be not much left for our future generations. That is why; there is a dire need to save these natural resources.

Now, how to write a natural resources essay? Students of Class 6th might face difficulties in writing about natural resources. Students must adhere to the above–mentioned essay. The points included are relevant, so students can understand and memorize them. This essay may come for 5 – 10 marks in exams, so students are advised to prepare accordingly. Thus, natural resources are necessary for survival and need to be saved.
